Blessed Rain

Dry, so very very dry.

Drowning in dust, smoke and brown.

The earth aches to burst forth into bloom.

Thunder dances with lightning.

Clouds rain down pure liquid sunshine.

The earth opens for a long drink.

Leaves seem greener now.

The rain washes dust away.

Birds sing in celebration.

Lightning almost seems cool.

Against the wet heavy clouds.

A sigh of relief – rain.

Blessed rain! Blessed rain!

We celebrate like only farmers can.

Knowing that hope rains down.

Pups cower at their first storm.

Cats seem offended at the wet.

Cows noble, horses buck and run.

Puddles reflect a clearing sky.

Windows through to the soul

of the world, that drinks up the rain.

Brian that is so true! Storms have a real magic in them, don’t they?

Living in Phoenix….I sure know this feeling. I so miss the rain….but when it does come, I really appreciate it more than I used to. Great writing.

I understand about deserts, and rain when you have to really wait for it is so special!

I’m also in a desert and we have such a need for rain…this poem is welcome and refreshing.

I really enjoyed this a lot. You really get us into a place and cicumstances that are unique, focusing on the little micromoments rhat make it what it was. The piece as a whole widens out into a moment brought to us to share in, the joy of rain in drought, a dry time. We really feel it come to life as the rain drops down.
