sTrEsSeD?!

sTrEsSeD?

Crisis? I got that handled. NO worries.

Manage emergencies is what I do.

Bleeding, burning or broken.

We’ll get through okay.

Now something small, tiny even.

That tosses me over the edge.

Lost, stuck or not working.

Freaks me out totally!

Handling the big stuff, when others fall.

That is what I’m gifted with, true.

Keeping calm when all is panic.

Assuring everyone, calm.

Small things, really tiny even, itty bitty.

Those are the grains of sand that rub.

They rub me raw until I stress.

Can’t handle irritations well.

Facing the fire, dancing with danger.

Living through danger or crisis.

Surviving to spite them all.

Our scars get counted.

Can’t find that key?  Drop the call?

Stupid little things wreck me.

I’m working on it, I am!

Learning to breathe.

Stress?  What me? Oh of course!

It keeps us alive, the friction.

There is a balance here

easily upset by….

Couldn’t agree with you more Shan–but I think I’d rather have it that way than the other way around. Enjoyed it much.

I hear you! It’s hard to have such little things be so irritating, and yet be able to fly through the bigger storms. Glad you enjoyed the poem! 🙂

I firmly believe that I have to be in a state of stress to function at optimum levels, but being the stress manager of a group takes its toll eventually – to always be the one with the solution, the shoulder, the sympathy.

Kerry – I agree. We need some stress to live, but there is a breaking point for us all. And sometimes we need a break from being the rock! It does take a toll…but we still do it, and we keep going back.

I am so with you on the little bits of stress ~ I guess after taking in all the big ones, we just let it roll out with the tiny bumps ~

Maybe it is safer to stress out over those little things because it doesn’t matter all that much that we don’t hold it together then? I don’t know for sure but that is how I roll!

Lovely poem and it is very true. Somehow, transcendence (for some) is more possible on a grander scale. There is a wonderful (if kind of awful) poem by Sharon Olds about this, and her mother, who would have gladly given up her life for her children, she says, but had a hard time with small kindnesses. I’m sure that’s not you! But you might like the poem. I am away from home so don’t have the title–but can check it if you are interested or you may be able to find. Take care! K.

I’d love to read the poem, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the poem and so pleased you took time to read it and comment while you were travelling!

I really relate to being the strong one in crises, but what sends me into a tizzy is, for example, some tech stuff not working online. I really resonate with this poem!

Sherry – when stuff that should work, doesn’t, it can really fry me! Let the DVD player not read the USB stick I’m stressed! LOL… but throw a fire at me and I”m good…glad the poem resonated with you, and as always it is so nice to see you here!
