A Guy Thing

Stay Calm Lawn

I’m a wife. I worry. Kinda goes with the job.

He is a guy. All guy. He makes me worry.

His answer to my worries is so simple.

“It is a guy thing. I do guy stuff.”

I’m a woman. I love him. It is my job.

He is the guy who has my heart.

He does guy stuff I don’t get.

I don’t get AT ALL.

I’m not immune to doing crazy stuff.

Neither is he. But I think sometimes

We need to talk about what that

really means in guy, to guys.

I worry. I fret. I get mad at times too.

He shushes me, and says, “You can’t

stop me. I’m a guy. I do guy things.”

I can’t stop him. I know.

I’m the the family medic. On call. 24/7.

His bruised this. The dislocated that.

The laugh as he says, “This doesn’t

look quite right, does it?”

I’m the one who gets the last laugh.

He gets to be a guy. Do guy stuff.

I’m the audience of shots never

to be seen on TV. Ha! Ha!

I’m in love with a guy who does guy stuff.

We are raising a little guy who

is learning to do guy stuff.

Life is good, And fun!

Today I have been reading on The Respect Dare facebook page, and on a blog by Rev. Brent L. White about guys, guy stuff and how some of the things that we tomboy/cowgirls and our mates can take for granted that everyone knows. Or most should.  It got me thinking about the lawn tractor incident where my darling hubby rode it down into the ditch, narrowly missing breaking his leg.  To my frustration he laughed, reminding me it is a guy thing. And he, being a guy, sometimes does crazy guy stuff. I have to let him. He is a grown up guy. And I get to fix him up for the next time, and the time after that.  I like it that way – a bit of rough and tumble is a good thing. For all of us!

I kept saying, “There is a storm coming” and he would smile and wave and keep on mowing. He beat the storm, of course, so the smug look stayed for quite a while! 🙂

oh my – they do things sometimes that can stop your heart – mine just lately rode a pallet transporter into a ditch – and he didn’t even tell me – i heard it by coincidence from a friend – honestly – he could’ve been severely wounded…ugh… when i asked him, he just said “well, nothing happened” — and that’s right – right–? smiles

That is something my husband would do too! Yikes! Glad he is okay. They are like that, aren’t they? Keeps us praying I guess. 🙂

Oh and an add on from my hubby – he says yours sounds ready for the next level in riding things into the ditch! 🙂

ha. guy stuff hurts at times…for sure…we are not always the sharpest tools in the shed, just saying…i admit and accept that…smiles….life is good and fun…keep that attitude and you will go far…ha

Maybe sharp, maybe the handle is loose or needs more tape but you guys who do guy things are rarely boring! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the poem.

Love the way you wrote this, and I think it speaks truth. There are some ‘guy things’ that women don’t understand. Perhaps women need to turn the tables and say to the guys they are doing ‘gal stuff’ sometimes, no further explanation, and that’s the way of life. Smiles.

Smiles! 🙂 You are so right! Thanks for coming over.

Guy stuff appear a little rough but it has to be. Otherwise it fails the test and it ‘s no fun. Yes, Shanyn a little tumble here and there works up on a guy’s mood. A guy is not a problem when he finds his own space. And truly so for the good of everybody! Great choice of topic and wonderful thoughts!

Hank, thank you! I will take that as a guy thing endorsement! I’m learning about this guy thing ‘thing’ a bit more as I see our son grow into it. It can be fun 🙂

😉 I am somewhat past that stage but my 14 year old son is going full force. the last was the skateboard fall. Mom left the room, then I poured the hydrogen peroxide on his road rash, without much mercy. He fussed, ‘that hurts!’ ‘Yes it does son, stupid hurts.’ 🙂

I think heavy on the ‘somewhat’ would be right! 😉 Guy thing, road rash and making ‘learn from experience’ choices. Thanks for coming by Mark.

Lovely sympathetic portrayal of “guy stuff.” It’s real, it’s different, and its good. My favorite part was this:

…But I think sometimes/ We need to talk about what that/ really means in guy, to guys.

Thanks so much. I LOVE your blog!

Shanyns – this was wonderful and so very true. Boys will be boys as we say here. I still remember my little brother eating handfuls of dirt in the yard. Mum just said “It’s what boys do”. On the other hand when they are ‘big boys’ – they can be the biggest sooks around 🙂

You are so right! 🙂 Thanks for reminding me about men colds and boys eating dirt!

I liked the simple, almost child-like rhyme and rhythm in this – very appropriate for the ‘little boy’ in all of the ‘guy stuff’.

Ah yes we do that, but we also get to take pictures! And scrapbook it! And remind them (like keeping the blown up tire rim on the wall a while – ha ha)

My husband was watching a show the other night about a husband addicted to buying cars, and all she wanted was a couch. I’m fine with the guy things my guy does.

I’m with you Laurie, I’m good with his guy things. Especially after seeing what some other wives have to deal with! 🙂

  13. August 15, 2013 at 12:18 pm

I’m a guy, but have never really understood guy stuff either… 🙂 But maybe there are guy stuff I still do.

I’m sure there are guy things you do! Just maybe not what you expect, or maybe there are some yet to try!

  14. August 15, 2013 at 1:44 pm

My guy is a guy but not a guy’s guy… not into sports and that kind of stuff… neither was his dad… but my dad was or tried to be… so I sort of know what you mean.

I know some friends like that – they are not doing guy stuff like mine, but we don’t do sports it’s more farm stuff! ha ha Thanks for coming by!
