Riddles

_DSC0045.NEF

Waving golden fields

precious harvest

waits to be

moved

Each grain

powerfully small

and strong enough

to leave their mark there.

The riddle is two part: what action transformed this wood and where was the wood found.

Cautious tails wag, friendly.

Wary of them with

five of their

six ends

armed.

Who is getting a wary greeting?

Beating within and

beating without

the instrument

God loves best

in our hands

and in our

bodies.

Old legend as told to me by a ____________________.  What is described here?

Rooted deep.

Growing tall.

Row next to

row. And yet

they move.

To follow

the sun.

We should

be so wise

to not see

shadows.

This one is so easy – NO MORE HINTS!

I feel like a poetic Batman out to solve the Riddler’s hints as to his next nefarious act; had fun with these riddles; last one is my fave.

Yikes. The last one, of course, is sunflowers. The first one puts me in mind of fields of wheat. The tails, I have no idea I feel like I”m driving through South Dakota sunflower fields…Midwest fields of grain. You’re good at this. And I think the other one is heart.

all i can think of is ‘riddled with woodworm’ for the first. We live in a 400 year old barn and our beams are riddled with holes from the glutonous little critters, so woodworm is often on our mind 🙂

    • shanyns said,

      September 6, 2013 at 10:26 pm

Firstly GREEN with a wee bit of envy – a 400 year old barn! Photos PLEASE! And yes this could resemble the work of worms it isn’t. 🙂

Tempted to look at the comments before I answer but I wont’ — will show my ignorance 🙂

    1st: wheat but … how?

2nd: some dangerous vibes here but I don’t know (not a farmer, I’m sure it has something to do with that.

    Third: heart?

4th Sunflowers (but I don’t understand the shadow reference – is there a fable or myth involved?)

    Can’t wait to see answers.

    • shanyns said,

      September 6, 2013 at 10:32 pm

Wheat falling against wood in a grain elevator! 🙂 The vibes are a grouchy cat. Heart and a drum (see legend below) and the sunflowers who, legend says, never see their shadows as they are always facing the sun.

  19. September 6, 2013 at 8:13 pm

sheaf of hay, heart, dog(s), sunflowers….and something else missing….hmmm ~ can’t wait for answers. ~ Thanks for reading my riddles 🙂

    • shanyns said,

      September 6, 2013 at 11:00 pm

Thanks for stopping by, your answers are very good. I put the answers below!

  20. shanyns said,

    September 6, 2013 at 10:24 pm

    And your answers are:
    1) Grain falling across the wood in a grain elevator. These are highly prized for decorators and elevator fans as there are fewer and fewer wooden grain elevators around anymore. I have more photos I’ll be putting up on my FB Photos by Shanyn if anyone wants to stop by.

    2) Cat – very much armed on five of her six ends, greeting a cautious dog

    3) A drum. Native legend tells us it is God’s favorite instrument because it sounds so much like a beating heart. So those who guessed heart were half right! 🙂

    4) Sunflowers! It is said that sunflowers never see their shadows because they are always looking towards the sun. (also famously Helen Keller spoke of keeping your face to the sun)

  21. September 7, 2013 at 1:44 am

Oh wow, you did amazingly well here! You got the sense of the riddle-as-poem, and you had a balance of intrigue and ease in the subjects. Beautiful, beautiful work!

P.S. I tried my best and got driftwood-scorpion-heart-sunflower. Ouch!

So cool and altogether they describe a really beautiful life that you seem to have – at least from my perspective. I know it is hard too – but you bring out the sunlight of it. k.

    • shanyns said,

It is a beautiful life, sometimes hard but almost always there is beauty to be found. So glad you enjoyed the poetry! And as always, thanks for coming over!
