That being slung in a hammock of muscle is a new one on me: but it makes sense when you see them running. Very smart move, choosing this word. Lots of interesting one-liners.

It does make sense, doesn’t it? They are incredible creatures!

Nice, Shanyn. I agree the horse is often overlooked. Not that oit should be, but it often is. I loved horses since I was a kid……

I have always loved horses, and their role in history is often missed or under-accounted for.

People usually pick one animal as totem, as bond partner; you & horses are very compatible; nice list poem, great Dada transitions & Fauve twists; good job on the prompt, Shanyn.

Thanks Glenn, I love the connection I’ve had over the years with my horses – they are so interesting, probably a totem animal for me too!

The horse is trying to figure all these things out. Yeah, me too. Interesting list, especially considering the number of things in common between horse and human!

    Interesting list, well woven! 🙂

fully grown with 7…wow..now that is early…we humans are way behind – eh… the horse is alive lyrics (is the horse the song, or the words? riding the melody)… that is cool.. i can imagine it is a bit of all of it…

    • shanyns said,

      November 11, 2013 at 5:42 pm

It is very breed dependent Claudia – Quarter Horses mature by 7, warmbloods like you see in jumping don’t mature until their teens, and draft horses mature late as well. They are physically done growing by 7, but mentally some are still young! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the poem.

… of course I love this. “is often blamed”. (It actuality it is usually a human’s fault – as you know)

    • shanyns said,

      November 11, 2013 at 5:42 pm

Almost always the human’s fault – although I’ve had some horses who took shameless advantage of any misstep! 🙂

  13. November 8, 2013 at 7:15 pm

rotating ears… yes that’s true.. love the seed and your comment… an independent herd animal

As I was reading this it made me think of how much we as society owe to horses. Beautiful subject!

  16. November 9, 2013 at 7:11 am

The horse is far more than I realised! I never knew…. 🙂

Such an interesting excercise and you gallop along with it, then slow your gait in a way that one can see the muscles move. Thanks. K.

Did I read somewhere that the picture was of you on your horse when you were a little girl? That is amazing! Also loved how you chose to be inclusive of so much of the output of Google into your piece – this just shows how much the horse has actually been rendered into the consciousness of humankind, how much of the horse has permeated our culture, our existence, our poetry.

Yes that is me on the mare. 🙂 And I’m so pleased that you liked my work on this prompt.
