Wind lifting feathers

#micropoetry

book pages on the side

of the road flutter like

the wind lifting the

feathers of a dead bird,

I pass by and mourn both.

~

I pass the river where the

snapping turtle lives and

wonder how she fares

and if she will wander

again come spring in

her larger than life

shell across the road.

~

Who encourages the

encouragers? Cares

for the ones who give

care? Who holds up

those who hold us

up? How can we

say we didn’t know?

~

Birds sit hopeful

on last year’s

bowed sunflower

heads. Soon my

feathered friends.

Soon.

~

It is Open Link Night for dVerse Poets Pub. There are some great poems already going live on blogs from all over. Stop by, read some poetry and leave some love. Share your own, it’s open to all poets!

Today I am musing about things I saw on my drive yesterday, and the memories certain places bring up. Some are short enough to be #micropoetry and others not quite.

i love the bit on the turtle and the wondering about her…
it calls to our connection to one another…
    and the third one…your question…who cares…
    apropo…

Oh my goodness, I love that fist stanza of birds and books, it really is vivid but also the turtle…I am a turtle recuer myself. Loved this. Fact is I am a recuer of all those creatures…soon, yes- soon! Nice write, Shanyn.

Somehow the image of the dead book, abandoned, soiled, rotting makes me very sad; even more so than a dead bird, which is not unnatural; like the short poem mode; maybe suggest it one day over at dVerse.

I know, I was the same way when I saw it. 😦

I will probably use that form for a Poetics.

    Who encourages the
    encouragers? Cares
    for the ones who give

care? …. that is a good question… some people give much…others just take… but we all need encouragment…we all need to be seen and loved and cared for… some very good points you make here shanyn

🙂 thanks Claudia, they are things that I have on my mind often. And they find their way into my poetry, sharing the weight of those thoughts I guess!

Who takes care of those that care… really a very vaild question… to give and take… I hope that by giving I will give to myself at the same time.

Thanks for reminding us how the ecosystem we live in need encouragers for the encouragers. For this reminder that soon we’ll be free again.

I loved each part for different reasons, a different part of the voice so to say, which is always a lovely thing for me when reading poetry. I especially liked the last two parts and the addressing to the birds.

This question struck me the most: Who encourages the

encouragers? Food for thought here Shanyn ~

If you find an answer, you’ll tell me okay? Okay! Thanks for coming over Grace.

A nice set. I was especially truck by the question of who encourages the encouragers too. I often think about care-takers and what a difficult life a care-taker sometimes has & hope that they have someone who cares for THEM as well. Encouragers and care-takers need ‘care’ and ‘encouragement’ too.

They certainly do, and I pray that there is someone there for them!

Sometimes one often wonders what prompt the caretakers or caregivers into giving out their all. They ought to have been motivated and where are the motivators! Nicely Shanyn!

Thanks Hank! I think those with a serving spirit just love to serve, and that should be encouraged, and they need our care.

Beautiful fragment of thoughts – heart warming. So much said with fewer words.

  17. February 20, 2014 at 8:10 pm

I like each one of them. Thoughtful and each one invokes a response by the reader… and that is the beautiful part. Lovely!
