Other Side

Coming through to the other side.

Like walking through a waterfall.

You say doomsday, I say hurray!

Coming through the fire whole.

Like dancing barefoot on coals.

You say no way, I say today!

Changing isn’t easy, light to dark.

Like moving around the sun.

You want to stay, I say no way!

Change is life, doom is in the reading.

Like sunshine after a storm, it passes.

You want to hide away, I go play!

Doom, doom, doom, doom.

Every flower whispers it every fall.

Every spring they are wrong again.

Doom, doom, doom, doom.

Stand tall and face it, have courage!

Have faith for just one more step.

Dance one more song, even if you die.

Sing one more poem, even a line.

Never stop living, treasure that breath!

Doom to boom – isn’t that history?

To be alive, right now, is enough.

To live for tomorrow, is all we need.

Yes indeed. My mother always used to say that, why worry about tomorrow, tomorrow may never come, live for today.
Nice one Shanyn πŸ™‚ Doom to boom… lol

My favorite stanza…sometimes all it takes is one line.

You are definitely right. Every fall there is ‘doom,’ but every spring proves it false. Doom is definitely in the reading (as you said), but that is one book I choose not to read. Like you, I believe in the importance of being alive right now and of planning tomorrow. Beyond that, who knows….. I like your philosophy & agree!

Mary – thanks! I don’t believe we are to know the future, but we are to live today as fully as we can, knowing what we do today impacts someone’s future. So glad you liked the poem.

Counting my own, I’ve read twenty of these now, Shanyn, and you rock the whole challenge with your truly joyous doomsday poem. I’d have said “no way” and you’d have proven me wrong.

    Doom, doom, doom, doom.

Every flower whispers it every fall.

Every spring they are wrong again.

I love the thought of the flowers whispering this…inaudible worry…well written Shanyn!!

Very uplifting poem! It is hard to view one’s self in natural cycles though – especially in the low ends, but good to keep in mind! k.

Painting the world with optimism. I once did that. Stay true to it, it mostly carries you through…at least long enough.

You have to dance through life as for the flowers…

  16. August 10, 2012 at 11:12 am

I loved your form, and the authentic voice of reason which pervades each line:

Change is life, doom is in the reading…

I’m with a few others in pulling out this verse for its power in an altogether powerful poem:

    “Doom, doom, doom, doom.
Every flower whispers it every fall.
Every spring they are wrong again.”

At first the tone in your poem was carefree, and then I started to feel wistfulness amid the drumming–that you were trying to talk yourself into believing or to find a place for doom in nature. And it may be natural, though I suspect the flower knows it will regenerate. Do we?

    • shanyns said,

Susan – you felt right, and I was seeking a place for that doom we all fear, us humans, and yet it seems to float right by all else in nature.

Perfect poem for me today, Shanyns. The sun is in and out of clouds and the storm of change is happening.

Victoria – praying that you come through the storm washed clean and ready to start anew! Thanks for coming, so pleased it was able to give you something today during your storms.
